The idea of regulating the SHBG protein to release active testosterone using boron is based on intriguing biological foundations. A pilot clinical study conducted by Naghii et al. (2011) on 8 men did indeed show that taking 10 mg of boron per day reduced SHBG and increased free testosterone after only one week. However, this preliminary work, which lacked a placebo group and used a very small sample size, does not allow for conclusions regarding a lasting or systematic effect. Conversely, a more robust randomized controlled trial (RCT) conducted by Green and Ferrando (1994) on athletes revealed no significant change in testosterone after seven weeks of supplementation. Finally, clinical observation data suggest that at this dose, boron may also raise estrogen levels, which could disrupt the balance sought for male vitality. The actual long-term effect of this strategy therefore remains highly uncertain, although boron remains a valuable daily micronutrient.
