The landmark study mentioned (Suez et al., Nature 2014) is basic research using an animal model (mice), which means the results cannot be directly transposed to humans. While alterations to the microbiota have been observed in mice, current research in humans remains inconsistent and does not confirm a direct and universal causal link.
