From an ergonomics perspective, positioning your screen at eye level is a classic recommendation validated by observational studies (notably published in the International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics) to prevent physical fatigue in an office setting. Regarding neurobiology, Huberman's concept is based on a real reflex: looking up and keeping the eyelids open recruits brainstem networks linked to arousal and alertness systems. However, claiming that raising one's screen by a few centimeters triggers a measurable state of cognitive alertness is an exaggeration. To date, no randomized clinical trial (RCT) or meta-analysis has demonstrated a direct effect of this specific gaze angle on concentration or productivity in a real-world work situation. The science of chronobiology shows instead that it is the intensity of the light captured by the retina at eye level that primarily influences alertness. This advice is therefore excellent for postural comfort, but its mechanism of direct cerebral activation remains a theoretical extrapolation.

CV events, high-risk patients on high-dose EPA (REDUCE-IT) — -25% relative (high-risk only)
Measured on
REDUCE-IT: 8,179 statin-treated high-risk patients

What’s uncertain
