Two very different claims are bundled into this post. The first — the body starts losing collagen in the mid-20s — broadly tracks the literature on dermal aging and menopause: estrogen production peaks in the late 20s then declines, driving a gradual drop in skin collagen from around age 30 (Zouboulis review, "Menopause and the Skin," PMC). The second claim — that a marine collagen peptide under 1,000 Daltons absorbs "5 times better" than regular 3,000-5,000 Da collagen — isn't backed by any source cited in the post, and is directly contradicted by the best available evidence: a double-blind crossover trial (Frontiers in Nutrition, 2024, NCT04097808) comparing 2,000 Da and 5,000 Da collagen hydrolysates in healthy volunteers found "no significant differences" in bioavailability between the two molecular weights. A broader review (MDPI, 2025) does distinguish high-molecular-weight hydrolysates (>10 kDa, less absorbed, more joint-oriented) from low-molecular-weight ones (1-5 kDa, more absorbed, more skin-oriented) — but that cutoff sits at 5,000 Da, not 1,000, and no identifiable study backs the specific "5x" multiplier. Verdict: mixed — the aging mechanism is real, but the sales pitch about this specific product's superior absorption is unproven and runs against the existing comparative data.
