Source: product listing for a capsule combining calcium carbonate, calcitriol, and vitamin K2-7, sold in India as an everyday bone supplement. Evidence type: clinical reference manuals (MSD Manual, StatPearls) and a published case (BMJ Case Reports, 2022) of severe vitamin D intoxication in an adult who had stacked more than 20 supplements without supervision. Calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D) is the most active form in vitamin D metabolism and needs no further activation by the kidney — which is exactly what makes it riskier than plain D3 in unsupervised use, since the margin between a useful dose and hypercalcemia is narrower. Clinical manuals recommend regular blood calcium checks for anyone on pharmacological vitamin D doses, especially the active form. Marketing this product as an ordinary bone supplement, with no mention of that monitoring, glosses over a real safety difference from standard vitamin D3. Direction: the mechanism (calcium absorption) is real; so is the overdose risk.
