The underlying mechanism is real and well documented: unlike typical Lactobacillus/Bifidobacterium strains, which mostly die in stomach acid, spore-forming bacteria (Bacillus species) build a protective coat that resists acid and bile salts. A human study in ileostomy patients detected live spores, then vegetative cells, of Bacillus subtilis DE111 in the small intestine as early as 3 hours after ingestion, and an in-vitro digestive model measured 70% cumulative survival for another spore strain (GanedenBC30) after simulated passage through the stomach and small intestine. The 'up to 100%' figure in the ad goes beyond what independent studies measure, which land closer to 70-90% depending on strain and conditions. The principle — spores hold up better against gastric acid than ordinary probiotics — is solid; the flat '100%' is typical marketing overreach.
