The number checks out against official guidance: US reference intakes (IOM/Dietary Guidelines) target 25g/day for women and 38g/day for men (21g and 30g past age 50), and the Reynolds et al. 2019 review places the strongest tipping point for mortality and cardiometabolic risk between 25-29g/day. So '25-35g' is a reasonable universal approximation, even if it slightly undersells the optimal target for men. Pairing fiber with water is also well-grounded: soluble fiber absorbs water to form a gel that slows digestion and softens stool, and without enough fluid, a fiber increase can actually make constipation worse. It's a short, correct, actionable piece of advice that doesn't need much more nuance.
