Source: Dr. Daniel Amen, psychiatrist and founder of BrainMD, whose own omega-3 product he recommends in the post (a conflict of interest worth noting). Evidence type: large randomized trials (Physicians' Health Study II, COSMOS, VITAL) and a cohort of over 390,000 adults (JAMA Network Open, 2024) followed for more than 20 years. These converge on the same picture: daily multivitamin use isn't associated with a mortality benefit in broadly healthy adults, with one cohort even showing slightly higher mortality among users (likely confounded). Omega-3 has solid evidence in high cardiovascular-risk patients or with elevated triglycerides, but a weak-to-null effect for general prevention (VITAL trial). Vitamin D effectively corrects a genuinely low measured level but showed no significant mortality or cardiovascular benefit in adults who weren't already low. The trio isn't wrong in itself, but framing it as a universal routine rather than a response to a measured gap goes beyond what these trials show.

Fruit juice, even 100% juice, isn't equivalent to whole fruit for blood sugar: without the fiber, sugar hits the bloodstream faster, and large cohorts show a different metabolic impact between the two.

The question the post poses ('do you think fruit juice is healthy?') has a fairly clear answer in the literature: not the same way whole fruit is. A 2024 review (European Journal of Nutrition) on sugar sources found that substituting whole fruit for other calories lowers HbA1c by about 0.19 points, while adding fruit juice can instead raise fasting glucose. A cohort study across roughly 41,000 men and women (Health Professionals Follow-up Study + Nurses' Health Study) found fructose from juice tracked with higher C-peptide and HbA1c, while fructose from whole fruit tracked with more favorable markers. A direct crossover trial comparing whole grapes to grape juice at matched carbs found glucose and insulin area-under-the-curve more than double with the juice. The mechanism is fiber, which slows absorption and boosts fullness — stripping it out, as juicing does, changes the metabolic response even at identical sugar content. The distinction is worth making: 'fruit' and 'fruit juice' aren't interchangeable for blood sugar.
