Magnesium is involved in over 300 bodily reactions; up to 80% of people may not get enough. Some groups (muscle cramps, stress, seniors, diabetics) benefit, while others (kidney disease, low blood pressure, heart rhythm issues) should avoid it or get medical advice first.

The safety framing is solid and well-aligned with standard guidance (caution with kidney disease, checking drug interactions). The "up to 80%" figure, though, is inflated relative to the available data: a 2024 modeling study (Lancet Global Health) estimates 31% of the global population has inadequate magnesium intake, and US NHANES data put average adult insufficiency around 50% — with some subgroups (teens, over-75s) genuinely approaching 75-89%. So the number exists at the high end of certain subgroups, but presented as a general average, it overstates reality. The rest — modest sleep/anxiety benefits, kidney and cardiac cautions — tracks the literature well.
