What Noli has graded

A specific probiotic strain (Lactobacillus gasseri BNR17) has been studied for weight management, but the reference controlled human trial found no statistically significant difference vs placebo — a classic case where a study exists without confirming the marketed effect.

The full read

BNR17 is a real strain, isolated from human breast milk and studied since the early 2010s, which sets this case apart from generic probiotics with zero backing literature. But the reference human trial (62 obese adults, 12 weeks, randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled) reports a slight weight and waist-circumference reduction WITHIN the BNR17 group, without a statistically significant difference BETWEEN the BNR17 and placebo groups — meaning the trial can't actually claim the strain beat placebo. A larger, more recent trial (125 participants, completed in 2021) was registered to specifically retest body composition, a sign the question remained open after the first trial; we didn't find its detailed published results to settle this further. Korea's regulatory recognition (MFDS) is a functional-food status, not proof of clinical efficacy on par with a drug — marketing this strain as 'the standard' for weight management outruns what the available human literature shows: this is exactly the strain-specific trap, a study exists but the effect being sold to the public goes further than what it demonstrates.
