Early results hint at lifespan extension with psilocybin, but is this science ready to inform human aging? Full article linked below

what it claims

Preliminary results suggest that psilocybin could extend lifespan, but it is too early to state that this applies to human aging.

The statement is based on a 2025 study (Kato et al., published in NPJ Aging) showing that psilocin, a metabolite of psilocybin, extends the lifespan of human cells in culture and increases survival in aged mice. This work observes a reduction in oxidative stress, preservation of telomeres, and activation of longevity-related genes such as SIRT1. However, Peter Attia correctly points out that this evidence is limited to cellular and animal models. There is currently no clinical data demonstrating a similar effect on human life expectancy. Comparisons based on observations of individuals who have consumed psychedelics do not allow for the conclusion of a causal benefit, given socio-economic biases.
